In his speech as he was addressing the nation yesterday, president of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni said one of the three Covid tests he undertook had turned out positive with the virus and to this he said he had avoided sharing the same vehicle with the First Lady Janet Museveni as he went for the state of nation address at Kololo.
The president arrived at the Kololo grounds with the First Lady but in a different car from the First Lady which surprised guests at the ceremonial grounds, on arrival the president had this to talk about on what is really going on with his health.
“This morning, I was feeling as if I had a cold. I took a rapid Coronavirus test which indicated negative. I did two more tests with deeper analysis. One of them turned out positive, the other was negative,” President Museveni said.
“So, I am a suspect of Corona as I speak.
That’s why I came in a different car with Maama (Janet Museveni)” Museveni added. Today the state House has also passed it’s communication regarding the president and his health.
Not much has been said but the communication made it clear that the president is not available in the house for a few days as he is on a sick leave.
“President Kaguta Museveni is not here for the next few days as he takes leave to self-isolate at Nakasero after testing positive for COVID-19. This is the very first time he will be away on sick leave.” They tweeted.
In his latest statement, the president noted after the 10 day long NRM retreat at Kyankwanzi, he on Tuesday started experiencing mild flu-like symptoms that he ignored and had his meetings as usual until yesterday.
“Yesterday morning, however, I noticed some mild flu-like symptoms in one of the nostrils (the right one). That is when I called my doctors to take samples and rule out Corona. They took three samples- one rapid and two PCRs. The rapid one was negative and so was one of the PCRs,” he said.
“However, one of the PCRs was positive. Taking precautionary measures, I traveled to Kololo, with a separate car from Maama’s car as the samples were taken back for reconfirmation. When I came back from Kololo, it was confirmed that I had Corona.”
It is well know that the president of Uganda has never been heard of in the recent days president of sick leave and this will be the second forced leave time that the president will be away from the State House for that kind of reason since 1971 when he had just fought Idd Amin
